Artist Statement

Nicole Patrice Dul is a mixed-media artist whose work investigates universal consciousness, socio-spatial theory, and states of transition through printmaking, painting, photography, and assemblage. Grounded in alchemical thinking and material transformation, her practice treats layering, weathering, and deterioration as generative forces—reflecting how environments, bodies, objects, and histories accumulate, erode, and reform over time.
Her current work is deeply shaped by grief following the loss of her mother in 2020, a rupture that initiated a period of stillness and spiritual inquiry. During this time, Nicole Patrice became increasingly attuned to the quiet language of objects, environments, and natural systems. Places, people, symbols, fragments, and recurring patterns drawn from nature and everyday life function as mnemonic and material anchors, embedding memory, temporality, and lived experience into the work. These elements evoke cabinets of wonder and memento mori, linking the personal to broader social, ecological, and cosmic structures.

In Nicole Patrice’s practice, space is never neutral; it becomes place through memory, presence, and lived experience. Architecture, figures, objects, and fragments act as spatial mediators—physical witnesses that retain traces of touch, use, and absence. They operate as microcosms where individual loss and introspection intersect with collective histories, environmental rhythms, and universal patterns of transformation.

Through experimental processes such as rust printing and hybrid printmaking and painting techniques, Nicole Patrice explores liminal states in which past and present, place and space, life and death, decay and regeneration coexist. Surfaces stain, corrode, and layer, echoing how environments are shaped by time, entropy, and human intervention. Her work reflects humanity’s ongoing search for meaning and interconnectedness, examining how we shape our surroundings—and how those surroundings, in turn, shape identity, belonging, and consciousness. Transformation emerges not as a fixed outcome, but as an ongoing condition. Nicole Patrice positions artmaking as both an act of inner exploration and a meditation on impermanence, interconnectedness, and humanity’s enduring pursuit of meaning.
